Alabama legislators are considering lifting a nearly 30-year old ban on yoga in public schools. The ban would allow k-12 to once again practice yoga in schools as a regular exercise.
The practice was first banned because of its “religious” nature of yoga in its Hindu roots, and if legislators are to lift the ban, yoga will be allowed again with the exception of not using the term “namaste.”
Though yoga is allowed in most all places in the state, it hasn’t been allowed in the state’s public schools because it would “endorse non-Christian belief,” reports New York Times.
