The Tidal project is working to track and analyze the movement of fish underwater in order to help fish farms more sustainably feed communities. The project consists of an elaborate underwater system that can track environmental patterns and fish movements.
“By logging eating behavior and environmental data like temperature and oxygen levels, the farmers can make smarter decisions about how to manage their pens,” says Tidal General Manager Neil Davé.
“And healthy fish require fewer antibiotics, a concern amongst environmentalists,” reports The Verge.
Cameras have been spread out in waters of Europe and Asia to help track various fish species.
Because the consumption of fish has a low environmental impact compared to other animal proteins, fish farms are essential to humanity and to the environment.
