At the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET), the new British galleries are set to open in the following weeks as part of the museum’s celebration of its 150th anniversary.

The newly revamped galleries cost about $22 million and includes one of the country’s most comprehensive collections of British decorative arts and design. It also tells a bigger story of how the wealth of the British relied heavily on slave labor.

“In an effort to make these objects relevant to a contemporary audience, the museum has sought to expand its perspective, emphasizing the development and growth of the British Empire—with all of its systems of exploitation, as well as its cultural appropriations and cross-pollinations,” writes Art Net.
