The US Department of Education launched an investigation into two universities, Harvard and Yale, after reporting that the two universities had received funds from foreign countries that exceeded $250,000 – the amount required to be reported to the government.
The department is reporting more than $6 billion that has gone unreported by either university and are maintaining that the universities, as leaders of the country, are not being transparent.
“This is about transparency. If colleges and universities are accepting foreign money and gifts, their students, donors, and taxpayers deserve to know how much and from whom,” said US Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, as first reported by BBC.
