According to a new UNICEF report, more than 8 million children in West Africa have been forced out of schools and millions have been displaced due to growing violence.
Victims of extreme violence and terrorists attacks have been fleeing into makeshift camps, leaving many of them orphaned and widowed. But as the months pass, violence is getting worse and children are still missing out on an important part of their lives to continue growing and learning.
“If they’re not going to school in 10 years’ time we’ll see how an entire generation was sacrificed because they weren’t able to learn. It won’t be just them who suffers. It will be everyone,” says Laurent Dabiré, Bishop in northern Burkina Faso in Africa, where many have fled to.
UNICEF leaders pointed out that children have a chance at a greater future when they can get an education, but right now, without an education, they are missing out on the opportunity to have a normal life.
