A new study published in PLOS ONE estimates where people will migrate to when coastal cities flood.
Using algorithms and machine learning, scientists are able to forecast where people in coastal cities will go when coastal areas flood as climate change and global warming results in more hurricanes and extreme natural disasters.
The study estimates that by the end of the century, more than 13 million people will need to relocate as sea levels continue to rise.
Among cities estimated to receive a huge number of migrants are Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas and Austin.
Experts note that the projections could completely change depending on how we interact and protect the environment in the next 80 years.
