The number of prospective college students in the U.S. is predicted to drop by 2026, as birth rates across the country are showing a steady decline.
Many states on the east coast will likely see a decline in high school graduates, according to Harvard Business Review.
However, because more parents will have degrees in the future, their children will be more likely to attend college, so the numbers for students demanding a higher education might remain the same in the future, despite low fertility now.
If the demand for higher education does decline, experts believe the prices of selective higher education institutions will spike to make up for the loss in funding.
