If universities across the United States admitted students based on only their SAT scores, then campuses would be filled with more white, affluent students, according to a new report.
The study by researchers at Georgetown University examined national data and found that campuses would become increasingly more white, wealthy, and male if test scores were the only factor that mattered. Those numbers would increase from 66 percent to over 75 percent, while the number of black and Latino students at universities would decrease from 19 percent to 11 percent, while Asian student populations would drop from 11 percent to 10 percent.
Though most selective universities take in many factors into consideration, including sports, community involvement, essays and more, the data shows that a more holistic approach to college admissions is necessary to maintain diversity.
