This week the Los Angeles teachers union announced that it will be walking out with more than 31,000 members on January 10 to protest a poor negotiation on behalf of the LA Unified School District.

Leaders of the union said they do not plan on going back to negotiating, since the school district has not taken them seriously in the past two years.

On either side, both the district and the union do not trust one another, with the district believing that the union always planned to strike, and the union believing that the district has alternative plans for the future of education in Los Angeles, reports LA Times.

Union leaders said that the strike will be worth it to help get attention for the lack of attention to the needs of teachers over the last quarter century. The Los Angeles School district is the second largest in the U.S.

The district has said that it does not have a good financial standing to meet the needs of the union, but that it is willing to continue negotiating.
