According to a National Weather forecast model from the National Weather Service, smoke from California’s 17 fires is spreading miles and miles away, reaching the East Coast.
Smoke has traveled over 3,000 miles, carried by winds and taking it all the way to New York. Some particles from the pollution have even moved beyond the United States, as reported by CNN.
If the smoke gets closer to the ground, experts say it could cause health problems for those living in the affected areas. Exposure to wildfire smoke has been found to cause respiratory infections and problems with breathing.
Currently, the smoke is still well above those areas, but it could lead to unhealthy air quality if it lowers.
