As the aftermath of Hurricane Maria continues to impact Puerto Rico, many high school students are unsure of their future college careers.
According to recent reports, more than 168,000 people fled from the territory to Florida due to the natural disaster.
Florida schools had to accommodate about 7,200 displaced students, leaving many expectant high school graduates without resources to prepare for college either within the US or Puerto Rico.
Due to the influx within their districts, many school officials have begun to provide financial aid and scholarships to top performing students who were displaced by the hurricane.
“The scholarship has definitely alleviated some financial stress, and it confirms that I’m capable of doing everything I set my mind to,” said displaced high school senior Yerianne Roldan.
