According to a new study conducted by the Education Trust-New York, gaps between white and black students is more prevalent in affluent schools.
Compared to low-income students, those of color in higher performing schools had lower test scores compared to their white counterparts.
Surveyors found that only 42 percent of Latino and 39 percent of black students in affluent schools are proficient in English.
Overall, the report indicates that “schools underserve students of color regardless of their income level.”
Educators and school officials are examining different ways to reduce the disparities between white and minority students.
