Senator Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles) is advocating new legislation that would help Californians receive most, or all, of their electricity from renewable energy sources.
The bill ambitiously aims to have California achieve complete renewable energy by 2045, with a halfway goal of 60 percent renewable energy by 2030.
A previous bill SB 350, passed in 2015, sought to achieve 50 percent renewable energy by 2030, which some coal and gas companies have argued is not achievable.
Natural gas is not considered a clean energy source, yet is currently the top source for electricity in the state, with at least 16 million people relying on providers of natural gas and electricity, such as P&G Company.
Clean energy executives and leaders emphasized the number of jobs that clean energy projects create for thousands of individuals each year.
