Business leaders are calling for a large increase in enrollment in North Carolina’s pre-kindergarten program, arguing that school participation is essential to improving reading skills and preparing students for employment. A report shows that more than half of jobs in North Carolina will require post-secondary education or training. “Currently, however, only 42 percent of North Carolinians have the education required for these jobs of the future,” states Jim Goodnight, CEO of Cary-based SAS.
