The World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, Turkey – the first summit of its kind – will bring together leaders from around the world to build the “Education Cannot Wait – Fund for Education in Emergencies.”
A shortage of humanitarian aid funds for education in conflict and crisis situations is the main motive behind the new fund, which officials hope will help fill ‘the gap of $2.3 billion’ in education.
“Education gives peace of mind to young minds,’ the Times wrote, highlighting that nearly half of the 1.5 billion people caught amid war and conflict are children. They often lack sources to education and lose hope and a ‘sense of normalcy’ which can lead to a future of poverty and violence.
Only two percent of humanitarian aid is allocated toward education currently, putting children and youth affected by crisis in the hands of war and at great risk to face uncertain futures.
