This past Wednesday, San Francisco mayor Ed Lee announced his intention to streamline all homeless services into a single city department, “…gathering all the health, housing, drug rehabilitation and counseling programs designed for the homeless under one agency,” writes SF Gate. His inspiration stems from the success of the new Navigation Center on 16th and Mission, which has taken 250 people off the streets by directing them to housing and social services.

Some San Francisco nonprofit leaders and city service managers have responded positively to the announcement, including the city’s Human Services Agency director, Trent Rhorer and director of the Tenderloin Housing Clinic, Randy Shaw.
