After a series of failed campaigns in education reform, the Gates Foundation has decided to approach its efforts in educational philanthropy from a new angle: supporting teacher preparation. For this initiative, “…it (the Gates Foundation) is awarding nearly $35 million over three years to five new centers — called Teacher Preparation Transformation Centers,” reports the Washington Post. These centers, scattered across the nation, promote knowledge and best practices among educators by testing and finding the best, context-specific approaches to k-12 education. In addition to the the Teacher Preparation Transformation Centers, the Gates Foundation awarded gifts to Teach for America and number of other alternative teacher prep organizations.
