First and Only American Writers Museum to Open in Chicago in 2017

Construction for the first and only national museum celebrating American writers will soon begin on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, next to the Chicago Cultural Center and the Arts Institute of Chicago. Set to open in 2017, the American Writers Museum will feature interactive exhibits with a focus on new media and technology- a trait that will highlight contemporary digital journalism and social media writing, as well as set the institution apart from typical libraries. After the opening, organizers expect 120,000 people to visit the museum annually. Supporters consider Chicago an ideal site for the museum, labeling it the “most American of American cities.”
