Last week, in a loss for local conservation nationwide, the Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) expired, despite its significant base of bipartisan support. During the last 50 years, without costing any taxpayer money, the LWCF supported natural land preservation in every state and contributed to over 41,000 state and local park projects nationwide, all of which improved access to the outdoors for millions, most notably for minority communities. The LWCF fostered strong local economies, healthy watersheds, clean air, and active communities- all of which stand threatened since its cessation.
