California banned the purchase of a pesticide chemical that has been previously linked to causing brain damage in children.
The chemical called chlorpyrifos has been banned for purchase across the state and one of the major producers of the chemical announced it would stop producing it by the end of the year.
Though the sale of the chemica had been banned for residents, farmers were still allowed to purchase it. The Obama administration sought to put an end to its sale after several studied linked the chemical to health issues in children. The Trump administration reversed the efforts and allowed the continued sale of the chemical.
California now independently moved toward a statewide ban, implementing it this month.
