A new report from the National Center for Health Statistics reports that life expectancy has gone up in the United States, with the average man living up to 76 and the average woman living up to 81 years old.
This is the first time that life expectancy has gone up in several years and the report says that it is largely due to a decrease in deaths by leading causes, such as drug overdoses.
“This is the result of overdose prevention efforts like naloxone distribution, and access to lifesaving medications methadone and buprenorphine, [which] are finally reaching more people,” said Leo Beletsky, a professor of law and health sciences at Northeastern University, as reported by Yahoo News.
