A new study published in the journal Social Science and Medicine found that the majority of women who have had abortions have ended up having feelings of relief instead of regret in the long-term.
The study found that after a 5-year period of having an abortion, 6 percent of women expressed negative feelings about their decision, while 84 percent had “positive or no emotions” about the decision.
More than half of the women surveyed felt the decision was very difficult at the time. CNN reports that “nearly 70% said they felt they would be stigmatized if people knew they had an abortion.”
With each consecutive year after having an abortion, many women’s feelings changed about their abortion, increasingly feeling more relief.
