The world’s largest prize in contemporary art has been awarded to the Colombian artist, Doris Salcedo, who works on installations “made in remembrance of those who have been murdered in her home country’s civil war, which has gone on for more than 50 years.”
The announcement of the prize winner was made this week by the Tokyo-based finacial company that created the award, which will be given to a chosen artist every year.
“Because of this award, I am now able to move ahead much more quickly than I had expected with a project that is important to me, and that I hope will touch many people.”
Her work has been featured in various notable and prestigious museums, including the Museum of Contemporary Art and Tate Modern in London, among others.
