Last week, the University of Maryland was officially awarded a $200 million federal grant for its Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health Department in Baltimore.
The funds will help researchers continue on a trajectory toward developing a flu vaccine that works more aggressively to protect people from the sometimes deadly virus that affects millions of Americans every year.
It will also help to fund research for seasonal vaccines.
The flu kills hundreds of healthy people every year, and puts young children and older seniors at risk.
