Insurers and doctors are trying new payment methods to help cut costs all around, while providing better quality care for patients who are pregnant.
Typically, maternity care for pregnant women is paid by insurers to doctors “a la carte”, with patients often paying a lot for different procedures and care. But now insurers want to pay for the full process in a bundle, paying doctors and practices a lump sum which covers hospital fees as well.
NPR reports that the new method of paying for and distributing funds could help reduce costs for patients, while holding people accountable and improve maternity care overall.
