A new report from the Board of Supervisors’ Budget and Legislative Analyst found that one of the reasons that homelessness is so prevalent in San Francisco is because local leaders are not as aggressive about getting those individuals long-term help through conservatorship.
The report notes that San Francisco does a good job of getting people off the streets for a short period of time, but does not invest in getting them long-term help because they are concerned requiring them to do so takes away their civil rights.
Though it is possible for health leaders to make recommendations that require individuals to get treatment, it can become a complicated process and otherwise an individual will end up in the streets.
