A group of researchers from Yale University found that students did not feel welcomed when viewing portraits of white male figures that were displayed as part of the Yale School of Medicine’s art collection.
The school’s art collection includes portraits of 52 white male figures and three white female figures.
Those who were part of the study said that the portraits made it feel as though the values of the university were “whiteness, elitism, maleness and power.”
Since then, the university’s female faculty members have cultivated a new exhibit.
