Mental health programs and services across the state of California vary vastly from county to county, making it hard to establish goals and standards so that residents have access to good treatment.
Across the state’s 58 counties, services are totally different, according to a former director of the National Institute of Mental Health.
According to experts, the state needs to do more to set standards and offer guidance so that counties can ensure they are adequately meeting the mental health needs of the people. As of right now, funding and support varies from county to county, and the programs that support young people experiencing mental health crisis may not be available in some regions of the state.
