Several arts institutions have received art works by African American artists from the Souls Grown Deep Foundation, which seeks to expand the visibility of African American artists in U.S. art museums.
“An essential element of the foundation’s core mission of advocating for the artists represented in our collection is to ensure that the broadest possible audiences have access to these important works of contemporary American art,” said President of the Foundation, Maxwell L. Anderson, as reported by Art News.
Among the recipients of arts works are Clark Atlanta University Art Museum in Georgia, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts in Alabama, and the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., bringing the total number to 16 institutions which have received more than 300 works by 100 artists.
