Earlier this month, a new report from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis and the National Endowment for the Arts highlighted how impactful the art sector has been to the U.S. economy.
The most recent data from 2015 indicates that the arts sector generated more than 4.2 percent of GDP, contributing over $763 billion to the country’s economy. These numbers have likely grown by today due to an increase in fairs, galleries and interest in art over the last couple of years. In 2015, nearly 5 million people worked in the sector.
This means that the arts sector generated more money for the economy than agriculture or transportation.
