36 cases of chickenpox have been observed at Asheville Waldorf, a school in North Carolina with comparatively low vaccination rates due to religious exemption.
This is the highest rate of infection in the state since the introduction of the chickenpox vaccine.
The school’s outbreak is representative of a growing number of parents refusing to vaccinate their children.
If the number of children receiving vaccinations doesn’t increase, other viruses are likely to arise, warn medical professionals.
