In order to combat the rising number of children who face mental health issues, many pediatricians are making screenings an integral part of checkups.
According to a recent study conducted by the Children’s National Health System, doctors were more likely to screen for mental health issues if they received proper training.
“This study is an important first step towards early identification of children with mental health concerns,” said the study’s lead author Dr. Lee S. Beers.
“If you identify and treat children with mental health concerns earlier, you’re going to see better outcomes,” she added.
Health care officials are calling for more studies to examine the growing number of children diagnosed with mental health conditions.
