In at least 5 U.S. states, the health insurance program for low-income children will run out of funding by the end of this year.
The original report from The Washington Post estimates that other states will manage to state afloat through the end of the year, but earlier this year Congress failed to renew funding for the program which supports thousands of low-income children in the country.
It has been reported that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid have awarded over $600 million to help the CHIP program remain intact.
