Community health centers across the U.S. are planning for the worst as funds from Congress expired in September and are now pending renewal.
As centers anxiously wait for Congress to make a decision on funding, some have instituted hiring freezes and are facing difficulties in planning for the future if funds are not properly distributed.
Over the last two years, health centers were granted over $7 billion.
The Health Resources and Services Administration however advised that many of those centers’ grants are expiring for the new year.
Community health centers traditionally take in patients regardless of their ability to pay for care and are one of the greatest resources for low-income and poor families.
