According to a study published in the journal Pedriatics, more than 19 children’s lives are lost each day in the U.S. due to firearms, gunshot wounds.
The study, conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, indicates that between the years of 2012 and 2014, more than 1300 children died from gunshots and more than 5,000 were treated for gunshot wounds.
Another study by the Washington Post states that more than 20 children are shot every day across the country.
Data indicates that this issue is most prominent in the US, as in 2010 at least 91 percent of the children that were shot and killed from wealthy countries were from the United States.
Furthermore, African American children are disproportionately affected and killed by firearms.
