According to data obtained by the National Lawyers Guild, inmates across the areas affected by Hurricane Harvey were left in inhumane conditions.
Inmates described living in knee-high waters with contaminated water and inability to shower and use the toilet properly.
Certain prisons were not evacuated during Hurricane Harvey, including in the Gist, LeBlanc, Stiles, with a total combined number of 8,000 inmates.
The NLG then filed a claim on the Bureau of Prisons stating that the BOP had sufficient knowledge to act accordingly and warn inmates about the hurricane and give them water, food and access to medical care.
