A record number of cases involving patients with STDs impacted the US last year, the Centers of Disease Control reported.
According to a survey conducted by the CDC, more than 2 million Americans were infected with chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.
While all three of the prevalent STDs are treatable with antibiotics, many people experience no symptoms and unknowing transmit the diseases.
“Clearly we need to reverse this disturbing trend,” said the director of the CDC’s Division of STD Prevention Dr. Gail Bolan.
“The CDC cannot do this alone and we need every community in America to be aware that this risk is out there and help educate their citizens on how to avoid it,” she added.
