According to a survey conducted by the nonprofit organization Detroit Future City, the rate of children within the city of Detroit has declined by 43 percent.
The organization reported that only a quarter of households within the city have children, averaging at 2.6 people per family.

Detroit Future City indicated the Detroit Public Schools Community District lost more than 30,000 students over the course of six years.
