According to new study released by JAMA Psychiatry, Americans are consuming greater levels of alcohol and engaging in more binge drinking practices than previously recorded.
While drinking among underaged teenagers has decreased, the report found that adult consumption greatly increased.
Researchers found that minorities and low income Americans were more susceptible to engage in dangerous drinking practices.
“This should be a big wake-up call,” said director of the Center on Alcohol Marketing David Jernigan of the findings.
“Alcohol is our number one drug problem, and it’s not just a problem among kids,” he added.
