With the Medicaid program drastically changing for adults and seniors, many have failed to identify how the cuts to health care coverage can negatively affect younger patients.
The Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017 would cut Medicaid by nearly $1 trillion over the next decade and would impact the 1.5 million children who receive coverage in the state of Illinois alone.
As a result, states across the country would limit the amount of funds allocated for children’s health care, leaving 30 million children and families without medical support.
Overall, nearly one in every 3 children is insured by Medicaid nationwide, with many relying on the program for treatment.
“It’s our collective responsibility to safeguard resources and access to health care for children insured by Medicaid,” explained President and CEO of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago Patrick M. Magoon.
