As the benefits of the voucher system within schools continues to be debated, proponents of the program claim vouchers can help students in both public and private schools.
In a new study which focused on the voucher system within Louisiana schools, students who received a voucher during elementary or middle school made no significant changes on their math or reading scores.
Critics of the system argue the recent findings validate the notion that vouchers do not help under-resourced students maintain similar grade levels compared to their peers.
However, supporters of the voucher program have found that students succeed both in private and public institutions.
“The important finding is that, given accountability, schools improve– that includes private schools, as well as public schools,” explained John White, the schools superintendent of Louisiana.
