A new exhibit opening at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art emphasizes the importance of smartphone photos as representing more than simply art.
The gallery, entitled Talking Pictures, is comprised of photos taken by artists in conversation with their peers.
The photos taken by the artists were not previously shared on social media and could not be sent to other artists with any comments or context.
Talking Pictures was commissioned in response to the 10th anniversary of the iPhone’s public release and examines how imagery can often describe much more than text.
“Sometimes, we’re agreeing and echoing and sometimes we’re coming apart,” explained photographer Irina Rozovsky of her photos within the exhibit.
