The largest wind turbine in the world, with three blades that are each 80 meters in length and more than 77,000 lbs in weight, can produce up to 9.5 megawatts of electricity to power 8,000 homes.
The turbine in located in the UK and was created by the Danish company, MHI Vestas, as an “upgrade” from its last model, which produced 8 MW of electricity.
Wind as a source of power has become increasingly popular in the last few years, across the country and around the globe. In 2016 in the U.S. alone, there were 25 million homes that were powered by installed wind capacity, according to a report from the American Wind Energy Association.
