The Monarch Wings- Hope Against Trafficking nonprofit in Pontiac, Michigan is in the process of remodeling a safehouse to help female sex trafficking survivors.
When the safehouse is completed, 16 women will be able to live in the home and will receive medical, legal, safety, and academic services.
With the help from nonprofit Leadership Oakland, the Monarch Wings hopes to improve the neighborhood that surrounds the home by removing garbage and changing the landscape layout.
Many tactics are being employed in order to combat the prevalence of human trafficking in Michigan as the state ranks second in the U.S. for sex trafficking.
In order to create safe opportunities for those who flee from human trafficking, state governor Rick Snyder signed legislation that dismisses crimes that were forced to be committed by human trafficking victims.
