FDA officials have warned that blood tests used to determine lead poisoning are not yielding accurate results.
In the past, the blood tests have overestimated how safe children and mothers are from being exposed to lead.
The warning has been advised against tests administered by Magellan Diagnostics specifically, used to draw venous blood.
“Meridian and Magellan take these matters very seriously and will continue to work closely and fully with the F.D.A. and C.D.C. to address the concerns identified with venous samples as quickly as possible,” said Meridian Biosciences, which acquired Magellan, in a statement regarding the issue.
The FDA has initiated an investigation.
