New surveys conducted by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) indicate that museum boards are failing to increase diversity.
According to the assessments, nearly half of the museum boards surveyed are comprised of entirely Caucasian individuals, while the vast majority of idirectors have not developed plans to increase diversity.
While most of the respondents believe their boards understand the mission of the museums, the boards predominantly fail in educating policy-makers, among other issues.
Laura Lott, the president of AAM, explains that the disparities in the findings will help to improve the current state of museum boards.
“We look forward to using these findings as a springboard for important conversations in our field, and a benchmark against which to measure progress,” she explained.
