A European court has ruled that Facebook must delete postings that were considered hate speech.
Eva Glawishnig, the leader of Austria’s Green party, was the target of derogatory comments posted by an individual using an online alias.
While the comments were blocked from being viewed in Austria, the court argued that Facebook must delete the content worldwide.
Since the company is governed by the laws of its California headquarters, Facebook has stated they are not responsible for removing the inflammatory content.
“Facebook must put up with the accusation that it is the world’s biggest platform for hate and that it is doing nothing against this,” claimed Austrian Green party spokesman Dieter Brosz.
