Several leaders in the art world are planning on going on strike the day of Mr. Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
Art leaders have been urging staff of museums and cultural institutions to shut down that day, as an act of solidarity, and to be inline with efforts of the #J20 strike, which seeks to get businesses to stop running on that Friday.
The strike would be symbolic of the need for arts and culture, yet a form of combat against “the normalization of Trumpism,” said one group of art leaders.
Yet other executive leaders in the art world argue that the strike only takes away from opportunities for people to visit museums, to consume culture.
Some museums will instead respond by opening their doors and making admission free.
