Seniors are receiving education on spotting false news, in the wake of articles, blogs, and even memes that put out false information on politics into the public sphere.
As the 2020 election nears, experts say classes that teach seniors and less tech savvy individuals about how to identify fake news are increasingly important.
“Experts say older adults may struggle the most with identifying fake news, and classes designed to teach these skills to seniors aren’t yet common nationwide,” reports NPR.
Researchers have previously found that people over the age of 65 are more likely to share articles on social media that push fake news.
Digital literacy is a big factor when it comes to understanding and finding news, and that is largely absent for seniors.
