A new study published earlier this week in the journal Nature Communications estimated that by 2050, coastal areas around the world will be destroyed by rising sea levels, leaving 150 million people without homes.
Earlier research had underestimated how much of the land around the world would be inundated by mid-century, but the new analysis suggests that large parts of countries will be underwater.
The analysis was produced by Climate Central, a New Jersey-based organization.
Furthermore, the analysis doesn’t even take into account the possible coastal erosion and population growth that is likely to further exacerbate those projections.
